THOMAS MCMANUS
Thomas
always enjoyed extreme sports from a young age. Snowboarding and skiing
all over the U.S. and Europe, his love for adventure didn't stop there. He
pursued his
pilot's license and fulfilled his dream to become a commercial pilot and flight
instructor.
In 2012
Thomas signed up for his first half marathon on his quest to get back into
shape.
The following year he completed his first triathlon which fueled his passion for
endurance
sports. After participating in the Tobay sprint triathlon with a "blazing" 800
meter swim
time of 43 minutes he was hooked for good. Since then his focus has been
triathlons.
As a
triathlete, Thomas understands the importance of being part of a masters swim
team. In 2016 he joined Excel Swimming and greatly improved his swimming
technique.
In 2017 Thomas completed his first Ironman race with an impressive 55 minute
swim!
Since then, he has completed numerous endurance races from 5K to marathon runs,
ocean swim events, and sprint triathlon to full Ironman distance triathlons.
During
the summer Thomas frequently swims open water on the south shore of Long
Island and organizes "no-swimmer-left-behind" group swims. He is a firm believer
that
that you need to spend time in the pool to improve open water swimming
capabilities.
He enjoys helping others by sharing his pool and open water swimming knowledge.
Thomas'
dream is to one day qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.
